War World One had left Europe devastated, a total of 4,616,000 of Allied soldiers were killed. Those who fought against the Allies (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey and Bulgaria) had 3,800, 000 soldiers die. The victors from World War One were in no mood to be charitable to the defeated nations and Germany in particular was held responsible for the war and its consequences. The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28th 1919, after many months of argument and negotiation from the "Big Three." The Treaty is what finally got to put an end to World War I. These "Big Three" were David Lloyd George of Britain, Clemenceau of France, and Woodrow Wilson of America. The treaty was separated into 4 sections: territorial, military, financial, and general. The regions that belonged to Germany such as Alsace-Lorraine, Eupen and Malmedy, Northern Schleswig, Hultschin, West Prussia, Posen and Upper Silesia were given to various countries in Europe. Also the Allies took over the Germans overseas colonies. Germany's army was reduced 100,000 men; and the army was not allowed tanks. Germany was not allowed an air force and only allowed 6 capital naval ships and and no submarines. The Germans had to admit full responsibility for starting the war and had to pay 6,600 million Euros for the damages made in Europe.
This political cartoon is about the Allies trying to force the Germans to sign the Treaty of Versailles, which is relevant to my project because I am mostly talking about how and why the Germans signed the Treaty.
